Methodology and assumptions

How the comparison works

Each criterion has a 1 to 5 score for Odoo and for ERPNext. You set a weight from 0 (irrelevant) to 5 (critical). The fit percentage is the weighted score divided by the maximum possible. A gap under 4 points is reported as a close call.

The scores are editorial judgements of the standard editions (Odoo Community and Enterprise, ERPNext open source) and are not benchmark results. Features, pricing and localisations change between versions, so verify the criteria that matter most in a demo with your own data.

When each tends to fit

Odoo often suits businesses that want a polished interface and a broad suite including website and e-commerce, and accept per-user licences for Enterprise features. ERPNext often suits businesses that want an open-source stack with no per-user licence, deep customisation and strong India compliance. Many requirements are met equally well by both.

Frequently asked questions

Is ERPNext better than Odoo?
Neither is better in general. ERPNext tends to win on licence cost, openness and customisation; Odoo on interface polish, breadth of apps and partner ecosystem. Your priorities decide.
Is Odoo or ERPNext cheaper?
ERPNext has no per-user licence. Odoo Community is free, while Odoo Enterprise is charged per user. Implementation effort is comparable, so total cost depends on user count and customisation.
Which is better for manufacturing?
Both include BOMs, work orders and planning. Odoo adds shop-floor, PLM and quality apps in Enterprise; ERPNext includes the core manufacturing features in the open-source product.
Can I migrate between Odoo and ERPNext later?
Yes, through data export and re-import of masters and opening balances, but it is a project in itself, so choose carefully now.
Are the scores objective?
No. They are editorial judgements with the reasoning shown for each. Treat the result as a conversation starter and validate with a demo.
